Carla Sonheim Art Giveaway

Carla Sonheim Art Giveaway

Today's Etsy Giveaway is for two 8x10 Giclee Prints of your choice from Carla Sonheim! ($40)

Carla Sonheim is a wonderful artist that has declared herself a "Painter of Girls!! (Animals, too)". She has so many beautiful pieces that really capture the innocence and happiness of little girls. From fairies, to cowgirls, to mermaids, to little girls with their animals. She has so many fun choices! Just looking at these you know they would look AMAZING in a little girls room or nursery. Plus, with all the different choices you. are bound to find that one of her little girls looks an aweful lot like your own ;)

Now for a little more info on the woman behind these beautiful paintings:

1. First things first, tell us a little more about yourself...

My name is Carla Sonheim and I am 45 years old. I have been married for 16 years and have two boys, ages 20 and 13 (my 20-year-old was from a previous relationship). Christer (20) is a senior at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and he got married this past summer to Christi, his high school sweetheart. Wes runs cross country, is a "Trekkie" and was the best man in Christer's wedding! My husband Steve is a commercial photographer, and we currently live in Salida, Colorado, a very small town... we are planning to relocate to Seattle in 2009.

2. What is your regular job?

This is my regular job (art-making), but I've tried to diversify my income streams so that my eggs aren't in one basket, so to speak. I have my work in about ten stores and galleries, I have my etsy store, I do three or four outdoor art fairs a year, and I teach workshops for adults in drawing and painting. I am teaching an online class in November on how to make my journals and purses... for more info, go to http://www.joggles.com/.

3. Do you Haiku?

Don't you know by now?
Girls are not afraid of bugs.
Giddy-up, horse-ant!

4. Picture of your workspace (as is, no cheating!)

My studio is our enclosed back porch room... lots of windows, lots of light, but also home of our wood stove (dusty, dirty!) and thoroughfare through to the backyard. I'm fairy messy... lots of stacks of stuff, things get thrown on the floor, etc. (I clean it up fairly often, but when I'm working/creating I don't worry about how messy the studio is getting.)

5. What inspires you?

As for art, lots of things... children's art, Outsider art. The work of contemporary illustrators is amazing to me, also 1950s and 1960s illustration, Iranian children's book illustration; the works of Picasso, Klee, Matisse and David Hockney... anything that comes from the artist's heart, really. In the real world: I'm most inspired by faces and animals... not so much landscapes or buildings! Can you tell?

6. What item in your shop is your favorite and why?

I didn't want to sell the original of this painting. I just loved how it turned out... the expression on the lamb's face, the tilt of the girl's head and how sweet and sad/happy she is, and the underlying theme: "We are not alone."

My favorite is the blue fairy. I can see it in my granddaughter's bedroom. I can also see her driving her mommy crazy pointing at it saying "fairy" over and over again. Did I mention she is 20 months old and loves to chatter? :)
